North Londoners of a certain age may remember a time when they could bathe in one of the ponds at Broomfield Park - and it could soon become a reality again.
The Broomfield Ponds Swim Society is a group that aims to provide paddlers and swimmers with both the boat pond and the lower pond at Palmers Green Park.

The main problem that currently prevents these areas from being safe for swimming is water quality. Therefore, the first task is to de-pond the ponds, repair broken pipes so that they can be replenished, and conduct a feasibility study.

A crowdfunding campaign has until 12 August to raise over £ 120,000 for the first phase of the project. At the time of writing, there are £ 51,000 for this goal, and there is still much to be done. The aim is to demonstrate to the Enfield Council and the Mayor of London the feasibility of the project and increase the chances of receiving more funding for future phases.

Given the recent popularity of the new Wildbadese in South London, which had to be closed just days after its opening, there is no doubt that the appetite for more wild bathing in London is rising. But it can only happen if the money is procured on time.
